If You Don’t Use It, You Lose it
Papa’s Speech Sessions-The Work Behind the Wins
Finding Strength in His Voice
Although Papa’s voice was often hoarse from years of teaching and guest lecturing, we’ve noticed a greater shift lately in strength, breath, and clarity. Like many presenting with Parkinson’s, his voice can feel softer and harder to project.
Twice a week, he works with a wonderful speech therapist, Elyse, singing songs, counting in clusters, and practicing tongue twisters. The reminders are simple: sit forward and tall, sip water and swallow hard, clear your throat big, and then share.
And share he does.
When he’s passionate, his voice rises to meet the moment. The strength is there. It just needs practice. As long as he’s using his voice, he’s strengthening it.
Every word matters, and we don’t want to miss a single thing he has to say.
IF WE DON’T USE IT, WE LOSE IT.
When we lose confidence or strength in our voice,
it’s tempting to rest it or let someone else speak for us.
Instead, ask others to pause. Give yourself the window. Use your voice.
Every word is practice. Every sound builds strength.
Practice with Papa and use your voice every day.
